This session will provide CFOs with practical guidance on navigating legal proceedings that may arise in their roles. Topics include understanding the scope and implications of subpoenas, what to expect during depositions, and best practices for preparation and participation. Participants will also learn how to give sworn testimony while considering long-term legal exposure, and how to effectively communicate legal matters and potential risks to their Board of Directors. This training is designed to enhance legal readiness and strengthen executive confidence in high-stakes situations.

Carly M. Moran is an Associate in the Firm’s Litigation practice group.

Carly is a seasoned attorney with a robust practice in administrative, pretrial, trial, and appellate proceedings. Before joining Weintraub Tobin, Carly gained experience litigating a wide array of legal matters, including wrongful death, product liability, medical malpractice, and legal malpractice cases. Through her experience, Carly has a proven track record of advocating for her clients through every phase of litigation, consistently striving for exceptional results and client satisfaction.

Prior to practice, Carly graduated with Distinction and as a member of the Traynor Honor Society from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she now serves as an adjunct professor. Carly’s strong academic background is complemented by her sharp analytical skills, allowing her to skillfully navigate through complex legal challenges, providing clients with tailored, strategic, and effective counsel.

David Diepenbrock

David A. Diepenbrock is a Shareholder in the Firm’s Litigation and Real Estate practice groups, and is the Firm’s Sacramento Litigation Practice Group Leader. He represents clients in a wide spectrum of business and real estate disputes.  

He regularly assists buyers, sellers, developers, landowners, and lenders in resolving disputes arising from the ownership and development of real property.  David has extensive experience in land use and commercial real estate issues, including eminent domain and inverse condemnation matters, as well as defending against government enforcement actions seeking to recover substantial administrative penalties for alleged violations of state and local laws. His commercial real estate experience also includes disputes arising from purchase and sale contracts, long-term leases, permitting issues, easements, and land use entitlements.

David also represents clients in a wide range of complex business disputes, including those involving fraud and unfair competition, as well as partnership and shareholder disputes. David has litigated cases for clients in a broad range of industries, including agribusiness, energy, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and mining.
