Join us for this informative session on employee benefits, focusing on medical plans. Employee benefits is often a company’s second largest expense behind wages. During our time together, we will be exploring the fundamentals of insurance in order to make better decisions. When a CFO is armed with the knowledge of what is possible and what is not, you will be prepared to set realistic expectations and implement a strategic plan regarding your benefits program. This will include:
- Insurance market basics
- Underwriting for fully insured medical plans
- The components of a fully insured premium vs a self-funded plan
- Cash flow and the life of a medical claim
- Stop loss insurance…what it is and does

Emily Santanelli
Partner & SVP

Emily is a Partner and SVP for USI in the Rancho Cordova, CA office. She has over a decade of experience in the wellness industry and employee benefits sphere. Her focus is on partnering with clients to help identify and implement long term cost control measures, retention initiatives and health and wellness strategies. Emily hopes to build long lasting, service-oriented relationships with each client, understanding their unique needs.
Emily earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University. She spent ten years working at Cooper Aerobics Enterprises in Dallas, Texas focusing on wellness, consulting and forging long term relationships with community partners and businesses. After, Emily began her own wellness consulting company prior to joining USI.
Emily has a love of community involvement. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Sacramento Area Human Resources Association (SAHRA) and on the Board of Directors for United Way California Capital Region. You will find her regularly speaking at HR Professional events, workshops and CFO roundtables as an industry expert. Emily is very active in her faith and regularly volunteers at her local church.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she and her husband, Vinny, now reside in Lincoln, California with their two children.

Julie Hall services as Vice President, Employee Benefits in the Rancho Cordova office.
Prior to joining USI, Julie’s experience included developing and growing business relationships and driving new growth for the largest eye insurance company in the US, VSP. Serving as a trusted advisor to brokers and clients alike, she continually ensured top-level service alongside strategic initiatives that helped clients receive the optimal products to fit their business needs. After being at VSP for 13 years, she decided to make the leap to become an Employee Benefits Consultant with Gallagher. For nearly two years, she excelled in the mid-market space helping clients move from antiquated service models into data driven strategies. Taking that experience and join the USI team she now has a powerful analytical engine, market leading employee benefits solutions and the best network of tenured teammates alongside her personable approach to continue fueling her market success.
After obtaining a full athletic scholarship for softball to Wichita State University, she earned her undergraduate degree with a BA in Sports Administration and a minor in Marketing, in 2007. Julie completed her post-graduate degree and obtained an MBA from the University of Phoenix, in 2010. She also has her California license for Accident & Health or Sickness and Life.
She has been married for 6 years to her husband Kevin, has twin sons who are 11, 4 adult stepchildren, 1 grandson, and a senior dachshund.
